Athletics Snap Selects' Streak

Selects vs. Athletics

Tuesday, August 2, 2016

The Selects couldn't come up with a timely hit on Tuesday night, stranding six runners in scoring position in a 6-2 loss to the Athletics to end a three-game win streak.

Rookie lefty Ethan Cox got his first start of the season, recording a 1-2-3 first inning before surrendering three runs in a four-hit second, as the Athletics jumped to the early lead. He settled in for a scoreless third before giving way to veteran right-hander Scott Clark.

The Athletics made it 4-0 in the fourth, but third baseman Dan Clark made a nice play to start an inning-ending double play, escaping a bases-loaded jam and keeping the game within reach. The Selects cut the deficit in half in the top of the fifth, as RBI singles from Glen Hall and Brad Cleasby chased home Tom Allan and Mike Brown, respectively. After a quick 1-2-3 fifth for Clark, the Selects put runners at second and third with nobody out, but failed to score. The Athletics then tacked on two more in the sixth and A's pitcher Noah Weir tossed a tidy seventh for the complete game victory.

MVP: Tyler Sager, SS
