Selects lose 5-2, fall to 2-1

Selects vs. Moonshiners

Thursday, May 31, 2012

The Selects dropped their first game of the season, falling to the Moonshiners 5-2 on Thursday night. The Selects opened the scoring in the top of the second on a two-out RBI double by Scott Clark, cashing Brent Furtney, but the Moonshiners answered in the bottom half when Scott Campbell knocked in Andrew Stewart, who had led off the inning with a triple.

While the Selects struggled to solve Moonshiners pitcher Derek Mitchell, the 'Shiners went right back to work in the bottom of the third, tacking on three more runs on four hits and an error to jump out to a 4-1 lead. The Selects trimmed it to 4-2 in the top of the fifth when Clark scored on Brad Dowling's RBI double, but that was as close as they would get. The Moonshiners added one more in the fifth and any hope of a Selects comeback was cut short when Mike Brown flied out to left with two on in the seventh to end the game.

In his third start of the year, Clark threw six innings, allowing 10 hits and a walk, while striking out six. The boys in green will look to get back into the win column against the Predators (3-3) next Thursday at 9.
