Bell hands Selects 4-1 loss

Selects vs. Bell Cartage

Thursday, June 14, 2012

The Selects felt the sting of the long ball Thursday night in a 4-1 loss to Bell Cartage. Derek Martin opened the scoring for Bell in the bottom of the third with a two-out opposite field blast, but the Selects evened the score in the top of the fourth when Scott Clark's two-out single cashed Jamie Ridley, who had walked and moved into scoring position on a Jamie Hickling fielder's choice. Alas, it would be all the offense the Selects would muster on this night despite two-hit games from Brad Cleasby and Brent Furtney.

Bell took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth. Brandon Roach reached on an error and came into score on a Matt Stagg single before Tim Dubois hit a rocket over the centre field fence to give Bell a 4-1 lead. Mel Ross shut the door the rest of the way, allowing six hits while notching 12 strikeouts. Clark took the loss, allowing four runs (one earned) on nine hits, while striking out three.

With the loss, the Selects fall to 3-2. They're back in action next week against a pair of division rivals, the Barons (2-3) and Diamond Jaxx (6-0), on Wednesday and Thursday respectively. Both games are at 9:00.

MVP: Jamie Ridley, 3B
