Selects end losing skid

Selects vs. Barons

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

The Selects ended a woeful six-game losing streak Wednesday night with a 5-0 win over the Barons, thanks in large part to a masterful pitching performance from Chad Fink. The first-year Select delivered a complete game two-hit shutout, striking out 14 along the way - and reached base safely in all three of his plate appearances for good measure.

The boys in green took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Scott Clark walked, stole second, and came in to score on a Dan Clark groundout. In the bottom of the third, Mike Brown took home on a passed ball after notching a leadoff single and Dan Fogal cashed one of Kevin Ryrie's three singles on the day, making it 3-0 Selects. They added the final two runs in the sixth, when walks to Fink and Dan Clark came in to count on a Brown groundout and Brad Cleasby single, respectively.

The Selects will look to build on the win this weekend as they defend their title at the 41st Annual Brussels Invitational. They resume their KFL schedule next week with games against the Red Division's top two teams, the Kings on Tuesday at 9 and the Jays on Thursday at 7.
