Selects vs. Phillies

Tuesday, August 7, 2012

Scott Clark picked a good night to have a dominant performance, throwing a complete game, three-hit shutout on Tuesday night as the Selects downed the Phillies 4-0 in a must-win season finale. Clark struck out five to pick up his fifth win of the season, getting good defense that included a Tim Coverdale outfield assist and a timely Jamie Ridley double play.

The Selects took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third when Dan Clark and Scott Clark both scored on a Kevin Ryrie double. They added a run in the fourth when Mike Welton tripled and scored on a Mike Brown groundout, and tacked on the game's final run in the sixth when Coverdale hit a rope to centre that bounced by the fielder, allowing him to come all the way around to score. Ryrie continued his scorching stick, going 2-3, while Dan Clark hit 2-2 and Welton was also 2-3.

With the win, the Selects finish the year at 8-11 and await news of their postseason fate.
