Selects cruise to 12-5 win

Selects vs. Thunder

Tuesday, July 23, 2013

The Selects put up a five-run second inning and a six-run fourth en route to their second win in a row, a 12-5 defeat of the Thunder that improves their record to 9-7.

The first hitter of the game, Trevor Martin, ripped one deep to straight-away centre, but Mike Boshart crashed into the fence and brought back a home run, setting the tone for the Selects early. The teams would trade runs in the first before the Selects took control of the game with their eventful second inning.

As he has done so often this year, Jamie Ridley paced the Selects' offense, going three for three with a walk, a three-run triple (to key the aforementioned five-run second inning), five RBIs, two runs, and a stolen base for good measure. Kevin Ryrie (2-4, 2 2Bs, 2 runs), Brad Cleasby (1-2, 2 BBs, 2 runs), and Dan Clark (2-3, 2B, RBI, run) also had strong showings in the win.

Scott Clark picked up his third victory of the season, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits over seven innings, while striking out a season-high 13. The Selects look to keep the wins coming on Thursday at 7 p.m. against the veteran Classics (9-6). The game can be viewed via tape delay on Rogers TV (Cable 20) at 9 p.m.
