Bell ends Selects' season

Selects vs. Bell Cartage

Monday, September 9, 2013

The defending champions proved too much for the Selects on Monday night, as Bell Cartage used three long balls and dominant pitching to complete the two-game semi-final sweep with a 7-0 win.

Shayne Riepert and Mel Ross held the offenses in check through three scoreless innings, but Bell's offense came to life in the top of the fourth when Tim Freeman and Dan Martin both belted solo shots to right field to give Bell a 2-0 lead. The score stayed that way until the sixth, when Tim Dubois drew a walk and Martin hit his second homer of the game, again going to the opposite field to give Bell a 4-0 cushion. With two outs, they added three more unearned runs to make it 7-0 and Martin, on in relief, shut the door the rest of the way.

Mike Brown and Mike Tyler had the only Selects hits on the night, while Scott Clark pitched a scoreless seventh inning and Mike Boshart showed off his deadly arm, notching two outfield assists from left.

The Selects would like to thank their friends and family for their support throughout the 2013 campaign. It's been a great year and we're already looking forward to getting back on the diamond in 2014.

MVP: Kevin Ryrie, C
