Selects vs. Predators

Tuesday, May 5, 2015

The Selects showed no signs of rust in their season opener Tuesday night, scoring in each of the first three frames en route to a comfortable 9-0 win over the Predators. Shayne Riepert looked sharp, throwing four innings of no-hit ball while striking out five, before giving way to Chad Fink, who allowed just one seeing-eye single in three innings of shutout relief.

Before the pitchers even had a chance to impress, though, the Selects grabbed a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. With one out, Brett Pfeifer singled home Brad Cleasby and then Mike Brown and Pfeifer came in to score when Riepert reached on an error. The Selects added two more in the second, as Kevin Ryrie chased home Scott Clark with an RBI triple and came in to count on a single by Brown. Tim Coverdale cashed a Darren Strickland triple in the third to make it 6-0 and the Selects tacked on three more in the seventh, courtesy of five walks and a Strickland single.
