Selects vs. Jays
Thursday, June 4, 2015
The Selects fell behind early and couldn't recover Thursday night, falling 7-4 to the Jays to end their seven-game, season-opening win streak.
The Selects opened the scoring in the top of the first when a Shayne Riepert double cashed a Kevin Ryrie leadoff walk, but they could get no more, stranding two runners in what would become a trend for the evening. The Jays answered in a big way, scoring five runs on six hits in the bottom half to take a commanding 5-1 lead that they would ultimately never relinquish. They added one run each in the next two frames to jump ahead 7-1 after three innings.
The Selects showed some life in the top of the fourth when Aaron McCaw and Tom Allan drew back-to-back walks and newcomer Brody Stevenson drilled a three-run homer over the fence in centre, making it 7-4. Alas, the Selects couldn't solve Jays' hurler Jordan Emick the rest of the way. Ryrie (2-3, BB, run) and Riepert (2-4, 2B, RBI) both had multi-hit efforts in the loss.
MVP: Brody Stevenson, 1B
