Selects' Slump Continues

Selects vs. 37s

Wednesday, June 17, 2015

The Selects dropped their fourth straight Wednesday night, falling to the 37s 5-4 on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh.

The game started off as a bit of a pitcher's duel, as Shayne Riepert and Tim Wright kept things scoreless through three innings before the Selects jumped out to a 3-0 lead courtesy of singles from Brad Cleasby, Mike Brown, Brett Pfeifer, and Dan Clark, plus a sacrifice fly from Darren Strickland. The 37s promptly cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom half of the inning on a two-out, two-run single from Ryan Mann, cashing Travis Martin and Dan Martin.

The Selects answered quickly, as Tom Allan led off the fifth with a walk and came in to score on a sacrifice fly from Brown, pushing the Selects' advantage to 4-2. But the 37s again had a response. With two outs and nobody on, they rallied and a bloop single from Travis Martin cashed Tim Freeman and Ted Sebben to tie the game at four.

Dan Martin came on in relief and set the Selects down in order in the sixth. The 37s looked poised to take the lead in the bottom half of the inning, with the bases loaded and one out, but the Selects escaped with a double play. However, it proved merely to be a stay of execution, as Sebben reached on an error with one out in the seventh and came in to score when Travis Martin hit a high chopper over first.
