The Selects struck early and held on for a comfortable 5-1 win Thursday night over a short-handed Athletics squad that was playing with only eight players.
The Selects jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first when Darren Strickland ripped a two-run single to cash Kevin Ryrie and Brad Cleasby, and eventually scored himself on a Shayne Riepert fielder's choice. They added two more in the second, aided by some defensive miscues, to take a 5-0 lead and pitcher Scott Clark took it from there, allowing just one run on three hits over seven innings, while striking out three. With the win, the Selects improve to 9-4 on the season.
