Errors Costly in 5-0 Loss

Selects vs. Outlaws

Tuesday, August 4, 2015

The Selects allowed four unearned runs Tuesday night, falling 5-0 to the undefeated Bell Cartage Outlaws to drop to 13-7 on the season.

In the early going, the game had all the markings of a pitching duel. The Selects mustered two hits over the first three innings off of Mel Ross, but were unable to plate either. Scott Clark, meanwhile, got four groundouts, two strikeouts, and a pop-up to retire the Outlaws' first seven batters in order. With one out in the bottom of the third, however, a dropped fly ball ended Clark's perfect game and Doug Hoffman followed with a two-run homer to give the Outlaws a 2-0 lead.

Two more Selects' errors in the bottom of the fourth allowed three more unearned runs, giving the Outlaws a 5-0 lead. Ross did the rest, throwing a complete game, four-hit shutout. Clark also threw well in the loss, allowing just one earned run on five hits over six innings of work. Darren Strickland went 2-2 with a double and a walk to lead the Selects' offense.

MVP: Darren Strickland, 1B
