Selects vs. Classics
Thursday, August 27, 2015
The Selects fell behind early and couldn't recover Thursday night, dropping their regular season finale 6-1 to the Classics to finish the year with a 15-9 record.
Classics' pitcher Todd Uhrig set the tone early, striking out the side in the top of the first and carrying a no-hitter into the fourth. Meanwhile, the Classics scored three in the bottom of the second when a Troy Brohman double and a pair of walks came in to score after a costly Selects' error. The Classics pushed their lead to 5-0 in the third when Uhrig notched a two-out single and Brohman followed with an opposite field blast. Uhrig helped his cause further with a solo shot in the fifth to make it 6-0.
The Selects spoiled the shutout in the sixth when Aaron McCaw hit a pinch-hit, leadoff double, moved to third on a Darren Strickland single, and scored on a fielder's choice by Brett Pfeifer. Down 6-1 entering the seventh, Shayne Riepert hit a leadoff triple and Scott Clark walked, but Classics' reliever Bob Underwood struck out the side to end the game.
The Selects now await their opponent for a first round playoff match-up set to begin on Tuesday.
MVP: Darren Strickland, 1B
