Classics Force Game Three

Selects vs. Classics

Wednesday, September 9, 2015

Todd Uhrig tossed a three-hit shutout Wednesday night and the Selects fell 8-0 to the Classics in game two of their quarterfinal series.

The Classics threatened in the top of the first, courtesy of two walks, but Shayne Riepert escaped unscathed, thanks in part to a beautiful diving catch by left-fielder Aaron McCaw. In the bottom half, Kevin Ryrie beat out an infield single, moved to second on a passed ball, and advanced to third on a fly ball to right, but Uhrig got a strikeout and groundout to strand him at third.

The Classics opened the scoring in the third, when Jodie Schnarr hit a one-out single and Andrew Mathies blasted an opposite-field home run to make it 2-0. After Uhrig walked and moved to second on a passed ball, Brandon Roeder ripped a comebacker off Riepert's knee into left field, making it 3-0. Riepert battled through the third and threw one more inning, before leaving the game down 4-0. The Classics added one in the sixth and three more in the seventh to complete the 8-0 victory.

The Selects have no time to dwell on the loss, as the deciding game three goes Thursday night at 7 p.m., with a trip to the semi-finals on the line.

MVP: Scott Clark, SS/P
