Selects Hang On To Salvage Tie

Selects vs. Predators

Thursday, May 19, 2016

The Selects scored five runs early and held on for a 5-5 draw with the Predators on Thursday night.

After Scott Clark set the Predators down in order in the top of the first, the Selects sent 10 batters to the plate in a five-run first, highlighted by RBI singles from Ty Sebastian, Tim Coverdale, and Dan Clark. For a while, it looked like that'd be more than enough cushion for the boys in green, as Clark cruised through the first three frames, striking out five along the way.

Meanwhile, Mel Ross shut the door for the Predators, coming on in relief in the second inning and tossing five innings of no-hit ball. The Predators shaved the Selects' advantage to 5-3 in the fourth, courtesy of a couple walks, a reached-on-error, and an RBI single by Brad Gartz. After another Selects error to start the fifth, Trevor Mask hit a two-run homer to tie it. Sebastian then came on for 1 2/3 innings of no-hit relief, striking out two. The Selects threatened in the final frame, with runners on the corners before Ross notched his ninth strikeout to preserve the 5-5 tie.

MVP: Ty Sebastian, SS/P
