Selects End Winless Skid

Selects vs. Bulldogs

Tuesday, May 24, 2016

The Selects got back in the win column on Tuesday night, snapping a three-game winless streak by besting the Bulldogs 7-4, their first win since the season opener.

The Selects nabbed an early advantage when Kevin Ryrie drew a walk to open the game and eventually scored on a passed ball. The Bulldogs pulled even in the second, however, when Craig Miller doubled and scored on a bloop single from Dave Carney. With Miller and Scott Clark engaged in a pitcher's duel, the game would remain knotted until the top of the fifth, when Ryrie again got things going with a leadoff walk. The Selects followed with singles by Brad Cleasby, Darren Strickland, and Brett Pfeifer, and a two-run double by Mike Brown, making it 4-1.

The Bulldogs cut it to 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth, but the Selects responded with three more, courtesy of singles by Ryrie, Cleasby, and Strickland, and a two-run double by Pfeifer. The Bulldogs got two more, but Clark closed the door on his first complete game of the season, allowing three earned runs on six hits, while striking out six over six innings.
