Selects Edge Brewers

Selects vs. Brewers

Tuesday, June 7, 2016

The Selects won their second straight on Tuesday night, edging the Brewers 7-5 in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

The Selects got on the board first when Kevin Ryrie notched a leadoff double and scored on an errant throw as Brad Cleasby attempted to bunt him to third. Cleasby then came in to count on a Brett Pfeifer single to make it 2-0 entering the bottom of the first. The Brewers responded, as Rory Ohagan ripped an RBI triple and scored on a Mark Kelly single, knotting things at 2-2.

The score would remain unchanged until the bottom of the fifth, as pitchers Kyle Coles and Scott Clark settled into their rhythms. Ohagan singled and scored to give the Brewers a 3-2 lead entering the sixth, but the Selects responded. With two outs and nobody on, Pfeifer ripped a double and Dan Clark singled before Shayne Riepert plated them both with an RBI double and came in to score himself on a wayward throw to third. The Selects then stretched their lead to 7-3 in the seventh, as Tyler Sager and Ryrie both beat out bunt singles and came around to count.

The Brewers cut it to 7-5 with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, but Scott Clark ended the game with his seventh strikeout, closing the book on his third complete game of the season and fourth win.
