Selects vs. 37s
Thursday, June 23, 2016
The 37s' offense was on full display Thursday night, as they notched their second eight-run victory over the Selects this season, this time by a 12-4 margin.
Veteran outfielder Tim Coverdale got the start for the Selects, looking to turn back the clock to his pitching days of yore, and escaped a one-out, bases loaded situation in the first with a strikeout and an inning-ending grounder. The Selects then took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Darren Strickland doubled home a Mike Brown walk and came in to score on a Coverdale single. Alas, it would be their only lead of the game.
The 37s put up a five-run second inning, punctuated by a three-run blast from Dan Martin. The Selects closed the gap to 5-3 in the bottom half when Scott Corbett - making his KFL debut - notched a two-out infield single and came in to count on a Brown triple. Martin tacked on a two-run bomb to highlight a five-run third for the 37s and they cruised to the 12-4 win from there.
Brown (3-3, 3B, BB, RBI, run) and Corbett (2-3, 2 runs) paced the Selects' offense in the loss. Thanks also to Jeremy Pullin, who made his Selects' debut behind the dish, lending a hand to a roster ravaged by injury.
MVP: Mike Brown, CF
