Selects shut out in game one

Selects vs. Kings

Tuesday, August 23, 2016

Kings' pitcher Greg Hammell utterly dominated the Selects in game one of their quarterfinal series Tuesday night, notching 17 strikeouts and allowing just one hit, as the Kings prevailed 5-0. Despite the lone hit - a single from Kevin Ryrie in the third - the Selects used walks, Kings' errors, and a hit-by-pitch to put runners in scoring position in five of the seven frames, but simply could not cash.

The Kings led basically throughout, thanks to a four-run second frame made possible by Selects' defensive miscues. They added the fifth and final run in the fourth, when Dave Barraclough cashed Nick Laurette. Scott Clark was the hard-luck loser, allowing five runs (one earned) on eight hits over six innings, while striking out six.

The Selects now face a do-or-die game two on Thursday at 7 p.m.

MVP: Kevin Ryrie, C
