Shorthanded Selects Fall 7-4

Selects vs. Smoke

Thursday, June 1, 2017

Mike Kitchen came out of retirement Thursday night, donning Selects' green for the first time since 2008, but he wasn't the answer to the team's slow start to the season, as they fell 7-4 to the Smoke.

The Selects struck first when Mike Brown cashed Brad Cleasby with an RBI single in the bottom of the first, but it would be their only lead of the night. After Scott Clark had mowed down nine consecutive over the first three frames, the Smoke put up three-run innings in the fourth and sixth, a margin that proved insurmountable. Lane Sebastian made his pitching debut for the Selects in the seventh, allowing one run on one hit and two walks.

Second baseman Brad Cleasby had a tremendous game in the loss, going 2-4 with two runs scored and making some spectacular defensive plays.

MVP: Brad Cleasby, 2B
