Selects Sweep Barons With 15-3 Win

Selects vs. Barons

Monday, July 11, 2011

The Selects and Barons renewed acquaintances Monday evening in the back half of a home-and-home series that ended a lot like it's predecessor, with the Selects winning 15-3 to move to 8-6 on the season. The Selects took a 6-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, putting up 10 hits and 9 walks en route to the convincing victory. Pacing the offense were Dan Clark (1-1, 2 BB, 3 runs, RBI, SB), Brent Furtney (2-4, 3 RBI, 2 runs), Reed Laughlin (2-3, 2 RBI, 2 runs), and Mike Welton (2-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs).

Furtney also picked up his second win of the season, scattering four hits, five strikeouts, and one unearned run over four innings of work before giving way to Selects newcomer Tim Coverdale, who allowed two runs in his Selects pitching debut, but still managed to strike out the side in his only inning of work.

The Selects now look to make it three in a row on Wednesday against the Puslinch Phillies as they continue to battle to secure a playoff spot in a five-team Black Division dogfight.

MVP: Mike Welton, 2B/RF
