Selects vs. Bulldogs

Thursday, June 16, 2011

The Selects' offense came alive Thursday night, ending a three-game losing streak with a 14-hit explosion in a 7-2 win over the Bulldogs.

The Selects struck first in the bottom of the second when Reed Laughlin singled home Glen Hall. The Bulldogs answered with a pair of runs in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead, but it wouldn't last long. In the bottom of the third, Scott Clark cashed a Mike Welton leadoff triple and then scored on a Zack Anstett single to give the Selects a 3-2 lead they wouldn't relinquish. Brent Furtney and Kevin Ryrie scored in the fourth to make it 5-2, and Welton and Dan Clark came in to count in the sixth to round out the scoring.

In his sixth start of the season, Scott Clark allowed two runs on five hits while striking out three, picking up his fourth win in the process. Doug Hoffman picked up the save, tossing two innings of shutout ball with three Ks. The Selects will look to build on the win this weekend as they head to Springfield, ON for a world qualifier; they open the weekend Friday at 7:00 against the Sweaburg Crush.
