Tuesday, June 14, 2011

The Selects dropped their third straight game Tuesday night, losing to the Cardinals 4-0 and falling to 0.500 (4-4) on the season.

The Cardinals opened the scoring in the top of the third, when Josh Roach ripped a triple into the right field corner and scored when right fielder Reed Laughlin had trouble coming up with the ball. Casey Toews then singled and came into score on a Matt Elmes base hit, making it 2-0. They added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh on singles from John Fackoury, Toews, and Elmes.

Scott Clark took the loss, allowing two runs, one unearned, in four innings of work. He gave up five hits and a walk, while striking out three. Doug Hoffman allowed two runs on four hits in three innings of relief, while notching four Ks. Cardinals pitchers Brendan Roach and Bryan Belisle combined for a complete game, four-hit shutout, striking out 11.
