Selects Get 4-3 Comeback Win

Selects vs. Moonshiners

Thursday, June 2, 2011

The Selects won their third in a row Thursday night, an exciting, come from behind 4-3 win over the Moonshiners. After pitcher Scott Clark mowed down the first nine batters he faced, the Moonshiners' sticks came alive in the top of the fourth, stringing together three singles and a triple to cash a pair and take a 2-0 lead.

The Selects got one back in the bottom half when Clark helped himself with a two-out RBI single to cash Jamie Hickling, but the Selects still found themselves down 2-1 entering the bottom of the sixth, seemingly befuddled by Moonshiners' hurler Jordan Emick. Hickling again provided the spark with a leadoff single. Glen Hall laid down a bunt and reached base on an error, and Clark executed a bunt single to load the bases with one out. Reed Laughlin drilled a comebacker at the pitcher, who knocked it down and got the out at first, but Hickling scored to tie the game. On the next pitch, Mike Brown singled to right, scoring both Hall and Clark for a 4-2 lead. Andrew Stewart took Clark deep to CF in the top of the seventh, but the Selects held on for the 4-3 win.

With it, Clark moves to 3-0 on the year with a stifling 0.824 ERA. He struck out a season-best 9 batters in his second complete game of the young season. The Selects will face two tough tests next week, battling a pair of division rivals in the 4-1 Kings and the KFL's only undefeated team, the 5-0 Predators.

MVP: Jamie Hickling, 3B
