Selects Heading To The Finals

Selects vs. Smoke

Thursday, September 9, 2010

It was a classic Selects-Smoke game once again in a game that took an extras to decide.

Doug Hoffman and Kevin Pomfret locked horns and through five innings had allowed just five base runners each. The Selects threatened in the top of the 7th as they had runners on first and second with just one out but couldn't come up with the key hit as they struck out twice to end the inning.

After holding the Smoke scoreless in the bottom of the seventh the Selects entered the eighth with Dan Fogal standing on second base. After a strikeout to start the inning Mike Brown singled for his third hit of the game scoring Fogal from second.

Mike Welton then stepped to the plate and layed down a perfect sacrafice bunt moving Brown over to second and setting up Kevin Ryrie's RBI single making it 2-0.

The second run proved extremely important as Tim Barfoot scorched a line drive to left field in the bottom of the eighth scoring Dwight Zinger from second making it 2-1 and leaving a runner on second with none out.

A groundout and a strikeout later saw Barfoot standing on third with two out and Chad Hallstead at the dish. Hallstead hit a soft grounder to shortstop Ryrie to end the game and send the Selects to their first KFL finals.
